Our journey begins at London Euston Station as your steward welcomes you aboard. Our electric-hauled train sets out for an express run up the West Coast Mainline towards North West England. All passengers will receive a souvenir booklet with a map and details of the route to add interest to your journey. At Carnforth, the filming location for Brief Encounter, our steam locomotive joins us for the journey north through Cumbria. Sit back and relax in the jovial atmosphere, enjoying the views of the Cumbrian Mountains from your window as our locomotive tackles the gradients of Shap summit.
Upon arrival at Carlisle the time is yours to explore the city at your leisure. The historic town boasts many attractions including the ancient Castle, founded in 1092 and the Cathedral with its famous 14th Century stained glass window.
After a short break we meet at the station and will welcome you back on board for our homeward journey via the famous Settle & Carlisle Railway. This stunning journey never disappoints, with its dramatic backdrop of beautiful scenery and impressive architecture, including the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct.
This trip will be electric or diesel hauled from London to Carnforth on the outward journey and from Preston to London on the return journey.
The steam hauled section(s) of this trip are expected to be hauled by a steam engine from a pool of locomotives based in the north of England.
